I love to combine juice & smoothie recipes. The freshly pressed Orange & Carrot Juice, combined with the frozen mango chunks create a vibrant and tangy morning smoothie. A lot of people know about the wonderful benefits of orange juice however most OJ sold are actually stripped from their nutritional benefits plus loaded with sugar and other sweeteners. Just to highlight several nutritional benefits: oranges help reduce cholesterol through an alkaloid compound called synephrine, it also contains flavonoid polyphenols which help to protect against viral infections plus it has been proven that it contains other powerful compounds which help boost your immune function, protect agains stomach ulcers and help regulate your sugar levels via its high fiber content. Furthermore the high content of Vitamin C, flavonoids and phytonutrients in citrus fruits reduce the risk of heart disease. So there are many reasons that justify eating oranges, especially during flu season (which is now!) Carrots also have multiple benefits but it’s most widely known for being rich in vitamin A, which helps promote visual health. It helps protect agains macular degeneration and cataracts (two common conditions that develop with aging). Hence, it is known to posses “anti-aging” properties.
Vit. A is also a powerful antioxidant, which help slow down the destructive cellular process associated with aging and cancer development. So there you have like a million reasons why you should make this smoothie-juice at least once a week. It’s an easy and natural way of staying healthy and practicing prevention! Plus it’s delicious…you’ll be drawn to it’s stunning orange color and citrus smell!
4 Large Carrots, freshly cleaned & with ends cut off
2 Large peeled Oranges
2 cups Frozen mango chunks
cinnamon, just a sprinkle
a drizzle of honey, optional
1. ORANGE CARROT JUICE- Press the oranges first at low speed, then switch to high speed for the carrots.
2. SMOOTHIE – pour the juice into the blender. Add the frozen mango chunks. Blend until smooth.
3. Optional add a sprinkle of cinnamon and a drizzle of honey. I recommend this for counteracting the tartness of the carrots and citrus.
